Tach Adapter Module Installation Instructions

Instructions

Please read the instructions carefully before beginning installation

Preparation

1. Disconnect vehicle battery.
2. Remove the passenger side kick panel.
3. Remove the black metal bracket that has three plugs attached to it on the lower side of the Power train Control Module (Engine Computer)

Installation

4. Unscrew the bolt holding the gray plug to the main wiring harness at the lower center of the Power Train Control Module (PCM) and carefully remove the plug.
5. Remove the black plastic cover on the back of the gray wiring harness connector.
6. Using one of the included tap splice connectors, attach the BLACK wire from the tachometer adapter module to one of the BLACK wires with a WHITE STRIPE coming out of pin locations 77 or 103 on the PCM wire harness plug. This is your ground connection. See diagram
7. Using another included tap splice connector, attach the RED wire from the tachometer adapter module to one of the RED wires coming out of pin locations 71 or 97 on the PCM wire harness. This is your power connection for the TAM. See diagram
8. Using another tap splice connector, attach the WHITE wire from the tachometer adapter module to the DARK BLUE wire coming out of pin location 21 on the PCM wire harness. This is the tach signal input to the TAM. To verify you have the correct wire, follow the wire away from the gray PCM plug until becomes paired up with three other wires. These four wires should then go into a plastic casing that separates them from the rest of the wires in the PCM wiring harness. See diagram
9. Using the included butt splice connector, attach the GREEN wire of the TAM (output from the TAM) to the INPUT wire of your aftermarket tachometer, usually this is also a green wire. See diagram
10. Reinstall the PCM plug, making sure it is seated correctly. Do not over tighten the center bolt.

This completes you wiring installation go on to TESTING your new Tach Adapter Module.

Testing

1. Reconnect your battery. Turn the ignition to on so that the dash lights come on, but do not start the engine. If the Tach Adapter Module (TAM) is hooked up properly the small green LED on the TAM will illuminate indicating proper power connection to the module. If the LED is not illuminated disconnect your battery and recheck your wiring making sure all taps and butt connector have a solid connection. Reconnect battery and check again for green LED illumination.
2. Install your aftermarket tach using the instructions that came with the tach
3. Start the engine and verify that the Tach Adaapter Module (TAM) is working properly by comparing the RPM readings from the aftermarket tachometer to the factory tach..

Completion

1. Carefully tuck the Tach Adapter Module (TAM) behind the PCM (Power Control Module). There is a small cavity behind the PCM. Place the TAM in such a way that it will not move around during driving.
2. Reinstall the black metal bracket removed to gain access to the PCM plug during preparation.
3. Reinstall the interior parts that were removed in the beginning (in reverse order) and the installation is finished.
